Chief Clarence Drumm

Clarence A. Drumm Jr., 87, of Glastonbury, CT , son of Clarence Drumm Sr. and of Carmel Drumm of Hamden, CT, beloved husband of Dolores J. Drumm for 64 years, went home to be with the Lord on May, 13, 2015, surrounded by his devoted family. Clarence was born on March 20, 1928 in Albany, NY, is survived by his six children: Denise Drumm-Gurnee and husband Bob, Clifford Drumm and wife Sharon Drumm, John (Jack) Drumm, Cindi Drumm Agostino, Holly Drumm and Bonnie Drumm Kumiega and husband Peter; grandchildren Austin Gurnee, Joshua Drumm, Eric Drumm Kira Drumm, TJay Agostino, Bradley Agostino, Jacqueline Drumm, and by his dearest sister Shirley Quinn. Born in 1928, Clarence served with distinction in the US Marine Corp, Sergeant China Pacific from 1945-1949 by Honorable Discharge and active in the Monaco Glastonbury Marine Detachment. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and China Medal. He is remembered for his distinguished career in law enforcement starting in 1951-1973 where he achieved ranks to Assistant Chief. From 1973-1984 as the Chief of Police, town of East Hartford, CT. He served as the President- Capitol Region Chiefs of Police from 1977-1978, as President – Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association from 1980-1981 (Life member) and active at the Assn’s International level; as President -New England Chiefs of Police from 1983-1984 (Life Member), and Chairman- CT Statewide Narcotics Task Force. Awarded an Associated Degree in Police Science and Administration by the Univ. of New Haven. He had achieved extensive course work in Executive Management at the F.B.I. National Academy at Quantico,VA; , CT State Police Academy and Yale University. Clarence is warmly remembered for his exceptional sense of humor, as an accomplished golfer, and for his civic contributions particularly toward childrens’ well-being as a Scoutmaster and Commission, and as a life time member in both the Lodge of Elks and the Knights of Columbus.

His family will receive friends on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, with a Mass of Christian Burial onMonday, May 18, 2015 at St Paul’s Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Green Cemetery, Hubbard Street, Glastonbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Clarence’s memory to the American Heart Association , 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492.
