The Kennebunk, ME. Police Department is presently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Chief of Police.  Kennebunk is located on the southwest coast of Maine, 25 miles south of the City of Portland, Maine and 25 miles north of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  Our year-round population is approximately 11,500 and increases significantly during the summer months.  The department consists of 22 full-time employees to include 19 sworn officers, one court officer/ administrative assistant, two front office clerks, and as 10 reserve officers.

The Deputy Chief of Police is responsible for, but not limited to overseeing the Professional Standards of the Kennebunk Police Department which includes the roles of training coordinator, conducting internal affairs investigations and reviewing and rewriting departmental SOP’s.  The Deputy Chief of Police oversees the Patrol Commander, the Criminal Investigations Division and administrative staff.

The Deputy Chief of Police is within the chain of command structure at the department and will work independently under the general supervision of the Chief of Police.  This position is regulated by applicable federal, state and local regulations, department rules, contractual limitations, and administrative review.

Salary Range: $67,000-$77,000 (Depending upon experience)

This is a non-union, salaried position

 

Desired Minimum Qualifications

  1. Be a graduate of an advanced command school as offered by the FBI National Academy, FBI LEEDA, Roger Williams University or equivalent.
  2. Be a graduate from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Social Science, Management or a closely related field.
  3. Have a minimum of ten (10) years police experience with at least three (3) years in an administrative capacity at the rank of lieutenant or above.
  4. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  5. Have and maintain knowledge of federal, state and local constitutional laws and statutes.
  6. Have the ability to coordinate, administer, and plan agency stability and improvement.
  7. Have and maintain strong administrative, writing, and oral skills.
  8. Have the ability to effectively motivate others through moral and intellectual persuasion.
  9. Have the ability to respond appropriately to requests for information of both a formal and informal nature.
  10. Have the ability to prepare, administer, and understand budgetary matters.
  11. Have adeptness in promoting favorable relations between employees and the public.
  12. Have familiarity with organizational behaviors, designs, and development.
  13. Able to respond from home to Kennebunk within 20 minutes of a call or willing to relocate within a reasonable time frame.
