INTERIM POLICE CHIEF

The Town of Northborough, Massachusetts, seeks applications from qualified individuals interested in serving as its Interim Police Chief. The incumbent is retiring after 13 years of service as Police Chief, and the Interim is expected to serve for a 3-6 month period while the Town undertakes a recruitment to hire a permanent replacement.

The Northborough Police Department is a progressive and well-equipped agency located in Worcester County, approximately 37 miles west of Boston. The Department provides services to a community with a population of approximately 14,500 and occupying an area of 19 square miles. The department’s operating budget for FY2016 is approximately $2.5 million. The Town operates under a Board of Selectmen/Town Administrator form of government. The Interim Chief is appointed by a five-member Board of Selectmen and works under the general administrative direction of the Town Administrator. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Candidates must have at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a management position (e.g., chief officer), and have a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in criminal justice, or related field. Candidates must be capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other municipal officials, the Board of Selectmen, and the community at large. Northborough has a combination of suburban residential development and significant commercial/industrial development.
