Position of Town Manager

The Town of New Shoreham is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Town Manager. The municipality encompasses the entire geographic area of Block Island. Reachable by water or air, the island is located thirteen miles south of Rhode Island with a population of approximately 1,000 permanent residents that swells during the summer to 20,000. 46% of Block Island’s landmass is preserved and protected open space.

The Town Manager implements Town Council policies and administers municipal services, administers all municipal services and oversees all departments excluding the School. The Town Manager will work closely with the Town Council, employees, boards and commissions, and community to cultivate an open, responsive government.

The Town Manager will provide leadership to 48 full and part time employees and 34 seasonal employees with a General Fund budget of $13.4 million for Fiscal Year 2017, including school expenditures of $4.7 million. The Town is governed by a five-member Town Council.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, Master’s degree is beneficial; minimum of five years of executive-level management and intergovernmental experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training; strong public relations skills, strategic planning and implementation skills; the ability to build consensus in a diverse community of constituents.

The salary range is $95,000 to $125,000 based upon qualifications and experience.
