Truro, MA

Chief of Police

The Town of Truro, MA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced candidate to fill the position of Chief of Police. Truro is a small town nestled between the Cape Cod Bay and the Atlantic Ocean on Cape Cod.  The town was incorporated in 1709; a historic, seaside community near the tip of Cape Cod in an area known as the Outer Cape.  There are approximately 2000 year round residents.  The population swells to approximately 25,000 people during the summer months.  More than 70 per cent of the homes are second homes used seasonally.  Seventy per cent of Truro’s land falls within the boundaries the Cape Cod National Seashore. The Town has limited commercial and retail establishments and is more rural in character with beautiful beaches and conservation lands. Truro has long been a haven for artists, writers and people looking for a quiet, peaceful life in a unique and beautiful environment.

The crime rate is low and the Truro Police Department is a community oriented police agency with a dedicated and committed staff, housed in a modern public safety facility. Access to support services is limited on the Outer Cape and thus the Police Department responds to a wide variety of service requests, often partnering with other Town departments and mental health providers to support the community.

The Police Department includes the Chief, a Lieutenant, four (4) Sergeants and eight (8) F/T officers, four (4) F/T and one (1) P/T E-911 telecommunicators and one (1) F/T Administrative assistant.

The Chief of Police is appointed by the Board of Selectmen and reports to the Town Manager.
