A national search is underway to identify highly qualified candidates to lead the City of Albany, New
York Police Department. This is an extraordinary opportunity to lead a department that has been
recognized as a model police department for community policing and progressive approaches to
community safety. The City of Albany seeks a strong leader who will embrace an engaged and hopeful
community and inspire department members to continue to work collaboratively to advance community
trust and public safety. Top candidates will be well-prepared to address an array of vital organizational
and policy issues including strategic planning, resource management, accountability, transparency, and
discipline. The new Chief of Police will assume responsibility for a department with over 500 employees,
including more than 340 sworn officers, and a $56.2 million budget. The position requires three years of
satisfactory full-time paid experience as a permanent Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, Commander or
Lieutenant. The Albany City Charter requires the Chief of Police to live in Albany. The salary for this at-
