Police Chief – Topsfield, Massachusetts

The Town of Topsfield, MA (resident population of approximately 6,500) seeks an experienced and proactive law enforcement professional to serve as Police Chief. The Police Department has an authorized strength of 27 sworn officers including: 1 Police Chief, 1 Captain, 2 Sergeants, 9 Patrol Officers, 10 Reserves, 4 Specials, 1 Executive Assistant and 1 part-time Administrative/Records Manager. Dispatching is done by a Regional Dispatch Center. The Department has an annual operating budget of 1.6 million dollars.

Supervised by the Town Administrator, the ideal candidate will be a seasoned law enforcement professional with a Bachelor’s Degree in law enforcement in criminal justice or a related field; ten years of progressively responsible police experience, with five years of experience in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional requirements include: A graduate of a full-time Massachusetts Police Academy or be able to obtain Massachusetts certification within a reasonable time period, have or be able to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry a Firearm upon hire, able to acquire and maintain a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license.

Salary: $102,291.00 – $134,154.00
