The town of Dracut is seeking a Chief of Police appointed under Massachusetts Civil Service Statute, MGL Ch. 31 Sec. 8, by the Town Manager, confirmed by the Board of Selectmen. The Chief of Police is the Chief administrative officer of the department and the final authority in all matters of fiscal management, policy, operations and discipline. He/she exercises all lawful powers of his/her office and issues such lawful orders as are necessary to assure the effective performance of the Department.
The Town of Dracut, MA (pop. 30,000) is located in Middlesex County (Merrimack Valley) Massachusetts, 30 miles northwest of Boston. Dracut is bordered by Andover, Tewksbury,Tyngsboro, Lowell, Methuen, and Pelham, New Hampshire,
The Dracut Police Department is a full service community oriented police agency consisting of forty sworn officers, four full-time and nine part-time police dispatchers. Additional administrative staff includes; School Resource officer, one executive assistant, two records clerks, and two animal control positions, along with a custodian, a maintenance mechanic and two crossing guards.
Candidates should possess progressive management and leadership skills, unquestioned integrity, a thorough knowledge of police administration and operations. Candidates should demonstrate experience in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with employees, and a community oriented philosophy of working with public safety partners, town departments, the business community and the citizens.
Candidate must be a graduate of a full time MA Police Academy or able to obtain MA certification prior to appointment. Annual salary is $155,185.52 and a comprehensive benefits package.
