Police Chief
Haverhill, MA (approx. 63,000 pop.), is seeking a progressive, proactive law enforcement professional committed to the concepts of 21st Century Policing and with a proven record of leadership to serve as its next police chief. Just 35 miles north of Boston, this thriving and history rich city borders New Hampshire and is just 17 miles from the Seacoast with direct ocean access via the Merrimack River which flows through the heart of the City. The eighth largest city in Massachusetts by population, Haverhill is 32 square miles, including some historically significant lakes, and has more than 228 center line road miles. The Chief leads a MPAC Accredited department of 110 full-time sworn officers and 17 non-sworn personnel with an FY21 operating budget of just over $13.5 mil. The City of Haverhill operates with a strong Mayor form of government. The Police Chief is a non-civil service position appointed by the Mayor.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field (master’s preferred); 10 years of progressively responsible experience with at least 5 years of progressively responsible command experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
