The Town of Stowe is seeking an experienced, motivated, and engaged leader dedicated to community policing to serve as the next Chief of Police. The Stowe Police Department is committed to excellence in law enforcement and devoted to the people, traditions, and diversity of our town working to preserve and improve quality of life, making Stowe a safer, more welcoming place to live, work and visit.

Stowe is a mountain resort town in northern Vermont and is a vibrant four-season destination renowned for outdoor recreation. What makes it truly special is that Stowe is also a place people call home. Stowe has 5,200 year-round residents with over 15,000 visitors during peak periods. Stowe Police Department, consisting of 14 full-time personnel, operates throughout the Town’s 72 square miles which includes over 90 miles of roadways.

• Skilled in managing administrative and operational functions of a Police Department including strategic planning, policy development, budget, personnel, and compliance with local, state and federal laws.
• Visionary leader who ensures excellence, promotes a positive organizational culture, and maintains a proactive, collaborative approach to public safety.
• Demonstrated ability to build and foster trust among internal and external stakeholders.
• Unquestionable integrity, will lead by example, and be engaged in the Department and the community.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in criminal justice, social sciences, management or similarly related field;
• Ten years as a certified law enforcement office, with three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in law enforcement;
• Formal leadership training preferred;
• Knowledge of budget administration, personnel management, and general management;
• Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Graduate from the Vermont Criminal Training Justice Council or equivalent program with the ability to obtain certification by the Vermont Criminal Training Justice Council within six months of the date of hire.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Vermont driver’s license.
