The Town of Francestown, NH is seeking a progressive, community-oriented full-time Police Chief to lead a part-time police department (approx. annual budget $251,925) consisting of 1 FT officer, 3 PT officers, and 1 part-time animal control officer. The current Chief of Police has managed the department for 10+ years in a part-time capacity. With approximately 1,600 residents, Francestown is a quintessential New England community that serves as the eastern gateway to the scenic Monadnock Region. Francestown is a year-round recreation destination as the home to Crotched Mountain Golf Club, Crotched Mountain Resort Ski & Ride, Blue Bear Inn, and the home of many recreational hiking and bicycling trails. With easy access to Route 101, Route 3, and I-93, Francestown is a short drive from Manchester, 70 miles northwest of Boston, and is centrally located between the New Hampshire Seacoast Region and Vermont border. The Town is governed by a 3-member Select Board, with an appointed Town Administrator.
The position of Chief of Police requires a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or related field, and eight (8) years of law enforcement experience, with at least five (5) years in supervisory positions equivalent to sergeant or above, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Understanding the role of a police department in a rural, low-crime community is critical. Must have, or be able to obtain, certification as a full-time NH Police Officer. The position of Police Chief will be a salaried, exempt employee with a generous benefits package including 100% paid Family Medical, Short-Term Disability, Life, and Dental insurances. The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $105,000. A sign-on bonus of $5,000 may be available to highly qualified candidates.
