Position: Full-Time Position
Location:  Windham Public Safety Building
Pay Grade and Range:  [$23.84-$30.06/hour]

The Windham Police Department serves a rapidly growing community of 17,000 residents living in an area of approximately 50 square miles and responds to approximately 21,000 calls per year.

Job Description

Police Officer is a responsible general duty and investigative position, which involves responsibility for protection of life and property, enforcing laws and ordinances, preventing and investigating crimes, and apprehending individuals accused of a crime.  Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations with new assignments accompanied by specific instructions.  Regularly assigned duties are performed with a considerable amount of independence.  This position requires independent judgment and the ability to react appropriately in emergency situations.  Police Officers operate under the general guidance of the Police Chief and Police Captain and direct supervision of the Shift Commander.

Job Requirements
Applicants must possess a valid Maine driver’s license, have passed the M.C.J.A. Alert test and an Academy entry level physical fitness test.

Education Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent.  Preferred candidates will be graduates of a two or four year law enforcement degree program or graduates of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or equivalent certification.  Individuals that have completed up to Phase II of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Law Enforcement Training Program will also be given preference.

Testing Requirements
Application Review, Interviews, Polygraph, Psychological, Physical and a Background Investigation.
