The Town of Swampscott MA (pop. 15,000), seeks a progressive, “21st Century” leader for its next police chief. This is an ideal opportunity for a seasoned police manager to serve in this “classic” New England seacoast community. Located 15 miles northeast of Boston along the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. The Town offers a friendly, welcoming, and nurturing family environment, an excellent pre-school to grade 12 public educational system and support systems, abundant youth sports opportunities and a town government which is responsive to the needs of its citizens. The new chief will be tasked with maintaining the commitment to the quality service the community has come to expect, and to find new and innovative ways to meet the challenges that lay ahead. The Town is administered by an Open Town Meeting, Select Board and Town Administrator form of government. The Swampscott Police Department, with an operating budget of $4.1 mil is a Massachusetts accredited Department with 32 sworn and 1.5 support staff serving a diverse and engaged community where public participation is a core value.

Successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in related field (Master’s preferred); 10 years of related experience with at least 5 years of progressively responsible command experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
