York ME – Chief of Police

The Town of York, Maine is seeking a progressive, community-oriented Police Chief to lead this full-service police department (approx. budget $5,661,672) consisting of 27 FT officers, 3 FT and 1 PT Administrative Staff, up to 20-25 seasonal employees including reserve officers and community service officers, 8 PSAP Dispatchers, Harbor Master, and Animal Control. With approximately 13,700 full-time residents in York Beach, Cape Neddick, York Harbor and the Village of York, the town is a quintessential Seacoast community on the Atlantic Ocean. With easy access to I-95, York is just 44 miles south of Portland, minutes north of Portsmouth, and 65 miles north of Boston. A five-member Selectboard governs the Town, with an appointed Town Manager. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; at least ten years progressively responsible law enforcement with at least five years in supervisory, command and administrative positions, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Advanced executive leadership training, such as the FBI National Academy, is preferred. Must be certified as a full-time police officer by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or capable of obtaining certification within one year of appointment, as applicable. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Salary range to $133,000; starting salary commensurate with qualifications. Excellent benefits.
