The Town of Alstead, NH, with a population of approximately 2000 people, seeks a Full Time Police Chief to lead their Police Department, currently composed of a full-time Officer and a part-time Administrative Assistant. The Chief reports directly to a 3 member Select Board. The Chief of Police plans, organizes, directs and participates in police activities in the functional areas of administration, planning and research, daily patrol, investigation, traffic, and communications. The Chief of Police oversees recruitment, training and development programs for department employees. The Chief analyzes criminal and traffic incidence information and prepares near term and long range planning and strategy for police services in addition to the preparation and management of the department budget.
The Chief of Police is responsible for maintaining contact and communication with the public, including private citizens, school groups, and regional and state police professional organizations.
A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or Public Administration, and five years of experience at the command level; or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience, including command level experience and/or FBI National Academy graduate. Certification as a NH Police Officer per NH Police Standards and Training Council or a willingness to certify within a reasonable amount of time, NH Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, and a National and NH EMT-B certification or willingness to certify within a reasonable period of time is desired. Candidates may be required to successfully complete a physical agility test, psychological and polygraph tests, criminal background check, driver record check and reference checks. Residence in Alstead is preferred. The hiring authority may waive some of the above criteria.
