The town of Athol, a resurgent community of 11,500 nestled along the Millers River in the scenic North Quabbin region, seeks a dynamic leader to serve as its next Chief of Police. The Chief shall direct and supervise all operations of the police department (18 sworn officers) including staffing, equipment and budgeting. The Chief will be highly visible within the community while seeking to ensure protection of life and property, and the prevention and suppression of crime, as well as fostering cooperation with other town departments and external agencies. The Chief works under the policy direction of the Town Manager and in accordance with applicable provisions of MGL c. 41, §97 as a “strong chief.” Minimum qualifications: bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public safety or related field and five years’ of progressive command or supervisory experience in law enforcement; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successful perform the essential duties of the position. Valid driver’s license, certification – or ability to be certified – as a police officer through the Mass. Police Training Committee, and NIMS 100, 200, 400 and 700 required. Starting salary range (Grade 21 – FY16): $92,701.05 to $104,355.85 DOQE. Go to www.athol-ma.gov for position description.
