Chief of Police
The Town of Henniker, NH is seeking a seasoned law enforcement professional to become the next Chief of Police. The Town requires a progressive law enforcement leader who is capable of guiding the police department through the challenges of servicing a dynamic and growing residential community of 5000 residents and New England College with a population of about 1000 students.
The ideal candidate will:
Possess a strong sense of personal and professional ethics; be an active and committed member of the community, who is responsive to the needs of the community; demonstrate exceptional, administrative, fiscal, communication, and interpersonal skills; be a respected and experienced law enforcement professional, skilled at building personal and collaborative relationships, both inside and outside of the department; understand community diversity and effective strategies for engaging fair and impartial policing practices.
Position Requirements
Candidates for Chief of Police must have a minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible police experience, with at least five years at the supervisory level of Lieutenant (or equivalent rank) or higher. An Associate’s degree in police administration or related field. Advanced training in police management from a recognized university, FBI National Academy or other training venue is preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Additional Desired Qualifications
Advanced management training; the ability to work within tight fiscal constraints; experience in homeland security, civil defense, and emergency management; experience in police personnel matters, including personnel development, recruitment, and officer retention; a mature leader with a flexible leadership style that engages and encourages autonomy, innovation, creativity, and problem-solving; a consistent, empathetic, ethical leader, who leads by example; skilled in communicating with the department, elected officials, and the community; a focus on community oriented policing, customer service, and building relationships and collaborative strategies for the delivery of police services; engaged, transparent, and responsive to the community, able to build and maintain public trust; a strategic visionary, who is action-oriented and willing to engage proactive strategies to engaging crime and social issues; experience dealing with diverse populations, and with the contemporary strategies for engaging fair and impartial policing and procedural justice; and the capacity to further professionalize and develop the police force. The Chief is required to live within a reasonable radius of the police station.
The Town of Henniker offers a competitive benefit package. Salary DEQ, current range is $61,643 – $83,409.
