The Town of Cumberland is accepting applications for a full-time, salaried Police Captain. We seek candidates who possess impeccable credentials, are of the highest moral character, and have the personal and philosophical desire and drive to serve our community. We believe that our most important organizational asset is our personnel, and we have high expectations of our police department.The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills, possess extensive knowledge of modern police administration, have the ability to analyze complex policy issues and adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action. This position requires discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
Must have a valid driver’s license or must obtain a valid State of Maine driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Must be a Certified Law Enforcement Officer. Must have attended and completed, no later than 24 months of hire, of approved training course(s) in law enforcement management and leadership. Must have substantial experience, with increasing levels of responsibility including a minimum of two years in a supervisory capacity, in law enforcement.
